Executive Director, Hydrogen British Columbia (H2BC)
As the first province in Canada to release a comprehensive hydrogen strategy, British Columbia has a vision of becoming a leading hydrogen economy by 2050. With its abundant supply of natural resources, proximity to key export markets, and a world-class hydrogen cluster (the largest in Canada), the province is well-positioned to integrate low-carbon hydrogen in its energy portfolio in order to decarbonize and strengthen its economy. As the provincial affiliate of the Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) in British Columbia, Hydrogen British Columbia (H2BC) brings together the industry, research and government stakeholders in BC’s hydrogen cluster to promote and accelerate the use of clean hydrogen and hydrogen technologies in the province. H2BC is seeking a new Executive Director to lead affiliate activities and grow and support the membership in British Columbia. As the Executive Director of H2BC, your mandate will be to extend the influence of the province’s hydrogen sector and create value for the member organizations by promoting their capabilities. This will involve engaging local government, end-users and the public to raise awareness about the benefits of hydrogen, the economic opportunity for BC, and the competitive advantages of the local cluster. In this hands-on role, you will also be responsible for managing H2BC’s budget and generating revenue growth through the recruitment of new members, securement of funding and sponsorships, and the execution of various initiatives and events. You will work closely with the national organization, CHA, to ensure that H2BC’s goals and priorities are in alignment across the board. Reporting to the President and CEO of CHA, your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
  • Recruitment of new members;
  • Managing affiliate advocacy efforts and ensuring alignment with the overall direction of the organization;
  • Managing relations with the British Columbia government and local municipalities; including advocating on behalf of the sector;
  • Creation of working groups and consultations as required;
  • Development of annual objectives and budget;
  • Achievement of the objectives set jointly by the President and CEO, and the members and the Board of Directors on H2BC;
  • Liaising with the CHA national team and management of affiliate staff;
  • Planning and management of affiliate meetings and events;
  • Organization of various events (conferences, working groups, webinars);
  • Collaboration with like-minded organizations in British Columbia
  • Presenting on behalf of H2BC and/or CHA in conferences, webinars, workshops and meetings
  • Drafting and submission of provincial funding applications, management of claims, preparation of progress reports, and completion of timesheet and status reports
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree in business and/or marketing or technical school diploma and significant experience in government relations/business/marketing;
  • Knowledge of the hydrogen market and its growth trajectory, along with an understanding of general trends in the energy transition;
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in government relations and/or marketing and communications;
  • Excellent manager with good organizational sense with respect to maintaining records, meeting notes, expense account, timesheets, etc. up to date;
  • Able to work from remotely from home
  • Experience and passion for the clean technology sector;
  • Excellent communicator able to represent a variety of members;
  • Comfortable with social media;
  • Available for media interviews;
  • Technical understanding with the ability to popularize information to a diverse audience: general public, government and industry stakeholders;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, also results-oriented;
  • Autonomous, proactive and motivated person, able to work with limited supervision;
  • Team player, eager to contribute to the team and the sector
  • Willingness to travel, mostly in British Columbia, but sometimes nationally and internationally
  • Experience in association management and governance is an asset;
