Q&A with new CHA member Inside Passage Marine

Aug, 13 2024

BUTEDALE – The Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) and Hydrogen British Columbia are pleased to announce that Inside Passage Marine has joined as a Start-up Member.

Inside Passage Marine Corporation is the owner of the Butedale Development Package which comprises a historic tidewater port, real estate, water rights, hydro-electric infrastructure and current licenses to generate 1MW of power (and 5MW if re-permitted).

With the strategic location of the deep tidewater port on the Inside Passage (Great Bear Rainforest, British Columbia), substantial fresh water supply and hydroelectric licenses, Inside Passage Marine is exploring the opportunity to produce hydrogen via electrolysis to support the clean energy future of Butedale.

The CHA had the opportunity to learn more about Inside Passage Marine from its founder and CEO, Mr. Shawn Kennedy.

We are excited to collaborate with Inside Passage Marine as a member of the CHA! What were your reasons for joining the CHA?

When we began assembly of the Butedale Package in 2012, we could see hydrogen as part of the future at Butedale. Our hope is that there are like-minded people within the CHA who can accelerate realization of that future.

What would you like to tell fellow members of the CHA community?

Butedale was founded in 1911 and today it is an internationally significant location due to its natural attributes such as its location within the Great Bear Rainforest/ Great Bear Sea. Participation in clean renewable energy energy futures at this location will be high profile. As custodians of a special place in the world, we are carefully looking for the right associates to transition the project from early stage to development.
