The Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) Welcomes Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada

Apr, 29 2025

OTTAWA, ON, April 29, 2025 – The Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on their recent election victory. We look forward to working collaboratively with the new government to advance Canada’s leadership in low-carbon hydrogen development, build a competitive low-carbon economy, and strengthen the nation’s role as a global energy leader.

Prime Minister Carney’s platform, with its commitment to positioning Canada as a “leading energy superpower,” offers promising opportunities for the growth of Canada’s hydrogen sector. Key policy proposals, including maintaining the industrial carbon tax, introducing new incentives in place of the consumer carbon tax, and expediting permitting timelines for major infrastructure projects, are expected to create an enabling environment for hydrogen projects across the country. His support for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies will further enhance pathways for clean hydrogen production, particularly small modular reactor (SMR) + CCUS projects.

“Canada’s hydrogen industry stands ready to work with the new government to drive clean innovation and create high-quality jobs,” said Nicolas Hilario, Interim President and CEO of the Canadian Hydrogen Association. “We are encouraged by the Liberal Party’s commitment to accelerating project deployment and strengthening Canada’s competitiveness in the global clean energy economy.”

As the new government takes office, the CHA remains committed to working with its members to support the Government of Canada in advancing a broad portfolio of hydrogen pathways and the policy frameworks needed to position Canada as a global leader in the hydrogen sector.
