The Canadian Hydrogen Association and Hydrogen Ontario support launch of first commercial hydrogen station in Ontario

ETOBICOKE – The Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA), the leading national association representing Canada’s hydrogen sector, and its regional affiliate Hydrogen Ontario are proud to support the launch of Ontario’s first hydrogen station for heavy-duty refueling.
The new 700-bar pressure-fill system station, which allows for hydrogen fuel to be dispensed into onboard storage for long-range commercial vehicles, was unveiled by CHA members Nikola and ITD Industries yesterday in Etobicoke.
The CHA participated in the launch event which was attended by Hon. Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, Hon. Sam Oosterhoff, Associate Minister of Energy-Intensive Industries of Ontario, and other government and industry representatives.
“Building refueling infrastructure is crucial for unlocking the potential for heavy-duty hydrogen mobility and for developing both the supply and demand sides of the hydrogen economy,” says Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO of the CHA. “The CHA applauds our members ITD and Nikola for their leadership in paving the way for the future of hydrogen mobility in Ontario.”
The station, which is strategically located near Highway 401 (the busiest highway in the world) and other major highways, marks a significant milestone in the implementation of Ontario’s Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy and the decarbonization of the commercial transport sector in Canada.
“The inauguration of Ontario’s first hydrogen refueling station marks a major milestone for us and our 90 members here in Ontario,” says Maike Althaus, Executive Director of Hydrogen Ontario. “Companies like ITD and Nikola are playing an important role to get more hydrogen trucks on the road to help decarbonize the 401 corridor and accelerate the development of the hydrogen industry in our province. This comes down to good, well-paying jobs here in Ontario.”
Earlier this year, the first commercial hydrogen refueling stations for British Columbia (Vancouver) and Alberta (Leduc County) were also unveiled respectively.
