Q&A with new CHA member Nu:ionic Technologies

Aug, 20 2024

VANCOUVER – The Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) and Hydrogen Ontario are excited to welcome Nu:ionic Technologies as our newest Start-up Member. Nu:ionic Technologies is developing proprietary technology that enables process industry customers to realize net-zero goals, at an accelerated pace, through electrification. The company’s first commercial application is the Nu-X Smart ReformerSM which uses electrified steam methane reforming technology to produce low-cost, low-carbon Teal Hydrogen™ for zero emission transportation, biogas, natural gas and industrial process decarbonization.

Founded in 2016, the Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada location is home to Nu:ionic’s Canadian headquarters and Research and Innovation Center where extensive testing and scale-up activity occurs. Its United States operation in Tulsa, Oklahoma provides sales, marketing, project execution and integrated product development support.

Jan Boshoff, CEO of Nu:ionic Technologies said, “In the words of Henry Ford, ‘Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.’ We are thrilled to be welcomed into the Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) and are excited to partner with members to collaborate, innovate, promote and accelerate the adoption and implementation of hydrogen solutions within Canada and globally.” He continues, “The clock is ticking, and we believe through the collective efforts of the CHA and its members, a significant impact can be made sooner than later by leveraging existing infrastructure and capital assets.”

The CHA had the opportunity to learn more about the exciting new start-up from Mr. Boshoff:

Why did Nu:ionic Technologies join the CHA?

The CHA provides a larger stage to expand our presence, our network and ability to collaborate and exchange ideas with like-minded start-ups, innovators and established North American and global companies. We also want to become more involved in government relations and hydrogen policymaking.

What would you like to share with the other members of the CHA community (e.g. opportunities for collaboration, project/activity announcements, etc.)?

Nu:ionic Technologies was recently chosen for the 2024 Scale-Up Hub Houston (SUHH) program designed to accelerate sales growth and expand export sales for Atlantic Canada energy and clean tech companies. We’re honored to be among the inaugural companies and excited to share our value proposition during Houston Energy and Climate Week, September 9-13. Details about Nu:ionic and SUHH follow: https://nuionic.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Press-Release-19-7-24-SUH-Houston-Cohort-2024-1.pdf

Additionally, Nu:ionic just announced a next generation electric furnace platform, Nu-XSM, designed in collaboration with XRG Technologies, and our first commercial application of the technology in the Nu-X Smart Reformer. This technology eliminates combustion emissions from fired heating processes and allows clean Teal Hydrogen production at distributed scale.
