The CHA is delighted to announce ProtonH2 as a new member

Aug, 8 2024

Calgary, AB – The Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) is delighted to welcome ProtonH2 as a new member.

ProtonH2 is a clean technology company focused on hydrogen production from end-of-life oil and gas reservoirs. ProtonH2’s mission is to develop low-cost, low-carbon intensity (CI), industrial-scale hydrogen production, starting in Saskatchewan and expanding across Canada, the United States, and globally. By repurposing oil and gas assets and utilizing existing energy infrastructure, ProtonH2 offers a pathway to bridge the fossil fuel industry with the energy transition, producing low-cost, low-CI hydrogen with minimal environmental footprint.

With the support of the Saskatchewan government, ProtonH2 is developing a first-of-its-kind gas-to-power project near Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. With power offtake secured with SaskPower, this project will use a blend of hydrogen and methane gases to generate electricity and is expected to achieve commercial operation in 2025. ProtonH2 plans to begin construction on “Project Apollo” in Q4 of 2024, which is targeted to ultimately produce over 500 tons of hydrogen per day at costs levels less than $1.00 per kg. Project Apollo, which will break ground in Saskatchewan, seeks to be one of the largest hydrogen hubs in Saskatchewan, serving both domestic and export markets. Their low-cost, scalable hydrogen production technology is a key enabler for the hydrogen economy in North America and the world.

“ProtonH2 is excited to join the Canadian Hydrogen Association, which will allow us the opportunity to collaborate with partners and experts focused on advancing the future of energy through effective hydrogen utilization. Hydrogen will play a crucial role in decarbonizing the world, and we are proud to start these exciting times in Canada.” said Paul Sandhu, CEO of ProtonH2.

“We are pleased to welcome ProtonH2 as our latest member. ProtonH2’s innovation in the production of clean hydrogen will enrich the industry, our association, and its members,” says Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO of the CHA. “We look forward to collaborating with ProtonH2 as a member of our community to propel Canada’s hydrogen economy forward.”
